This is simple. When me and friends get together to cook and drink beer, I always cook these for appetizers.

Cut the breast in 1/2 slices (not long ways, but short ways on the breast)
Soak in Italian and Worcestershire
Wrap the pieces of goose meat in uncooked bacon using toothpick (you can add a jalapeno to spice things up)
Sprinkle season over each piece.
Grill, and only grill them to about rare-medium rare.

Eat and enjoy

How do you guys feel about being able to use electronic caller during regular season in the STATES, rather then conservation season?

PROS/CONS???

Reason being, Arkansas Game and Fish sends out a random survey to those who acquired a snow goose conservation number for hunting in Arkansas.
It ask, Do you support the use of electronic callers during regular light geese season.

Any input?

Wariness of Snows Vs Advanced Hunting Techniques

Has the degree of wariness for snow geese reach a plateau? Or will we have to continue to advance the techniques we employ to successfully hunt them?...

Has the degree of wariness for snow geese reach a plateau? Or will we have to continue to advance the techniques we employ to successfully hunt them? This is a question I've pondered for awhile now.

Going back to the very beginning of the conservation season, I started with 200 Texas Rags, a couple dozen old Herters plastic shell decoys, a couple dozen Carry Lite floaters, and a single speaker Johnny Stewart e-caller. And for the first time in my life, shooting snows in my face was the norm. The second year was similar, but the third saw half to two-thirds of the working birds sliding off at 80 yards. I adjusted with the use of mostly plastic Carry Lite shells and a lot more floaters. We got better blinds to hide better, and added two more Johnny Stewarts for a total of three speakers. That helped for another year but the educational curve of the snows meant we had to constantly adapt. My guess is that most of you that started in the first years of the C.O. saw something similar. I moved to the most realistic full-body decoys I could get my hands on and more of them, repainted the entire spread with U-Vision paint, increased the quality of the e-caller system and the sounds those speakers spit out. We used or considered almost every gizmo and gadget that came along.

It - at least seemed - we had to advance our techniques to maintain quality hunting. But for the last three or so years, I really haven't looked at improving or coming up with new techniques. I just try to pay more attention to the fundamentals. In fact, I have backed off of what I think is creating the most realism with full-bodies by reverting to more use of socks purely for the ease of it. And I think our hunting results - regardless of the hatch - are fairly consistent. And so I have settled into an effort that results in a success rate that I am satisfied with. Not what it was in the first few years of the C.O., but good.

I guess I have come to believe that the birds have also reached their limits in adapting to what we throw at them and I can expect similar success to what I have experienced the past several years into the future, pending variances caused by weather, migration patterns, and such.

Thoughts?

Ok, guys here's one for you dealing with the enclosed trailer pulling and subsequent MPG. I currently have a 6x12 v-nose that I pull with a 2011 F-250 diesel. I'm stationed in Fort Bragg, NC. Each year, when not deployed, I go to ND for a week. That being said it's about 1500 miles one way. I've done it the last two years with no topper/cap and gotten an average of 14 MPG. I am looking to get a topper/cap for the truck this year. I am looking at getting the tall raised ones to try and deflect the wind as much as possible over the trailer in hopes that it will pull smoother and increase the MPGs. Even if it's only one or two MPG, it makes a huge difference over the course of what is usually a 4,000 mile round trip hunt, including scouting etc. Has anyone had any experience with this or have any suggestions as to whether or not this will actually improve my MPG?
