I held both guns this weekend and i like the SBE II better than the SX3. The SBE feels a lot lighter due to the way it is balanced. I like how both of them shoulder and swing, but the SBE feels like the gun for me. Benelli SBE II Max 4 HD 28"!

I shot 78 boxes without cleaning through my xtrema II before the action started slowing down when it got really cold. There is no tougher finish on the market either. You simply cannot get it to rust, and it's nearly impossible to scratch. Mine is finally showing signs of losing some of the coating where the barrel rubs the blind after 4 years of extreme abuse and neglect. Pretty much every one I hunt with (6 out of 7) shoot xtrema II's now. A 3.5 with a heavy load will POUND YOU without the kickoff. That thing really works.

For the record, I'm not a benelli hater. I am so jonesing for an M2 20 gauge to shoot doves. I shot a buddy of mines last year and it was a dream to shoot.

There is simply no better waterfowl gun on the market than the extrema II. That said, I haven't had a chance to shoot a Maxus.

I own a SBE2, Xtrema2, 11-87SM, and 7 other shotguns. For all-around waterfowl hunting, the Xtrema2 is the best. Easiest to do a complete cleaning (including recoil spring), and have had zero problems with the gun. I have had it for 3 seasons now and use it some for clays. I could keep only one of them, that would be the gun.

Default Best Waterfowl Gun

I kind of a shotgun junkie. Especially with waterfowl guns. I have a vast assortment of waterfowl guns and the Extrema II is bar far my faviorte. I have one 26" and two 28". I think the 28" swings better and is smoother. Pattern percentages are average. The guns all love fed BBB in 3.5" with 90% patterns @ 40 yds. Everything else is workable. The Briley XTR tube also give good 40YD plus patterns with Federal BB and 1 in 3.5"

I hope this helps. Enjoy DD

3 Extrema II
1 Extrema I
1 Browning Maxus
2 Browning Gold 3.5"
1 Gold 10
1BPS 10
3 Benelli SBE
1 Beretta 391
1 Super X 2 3.5"

I would have to vote for an Xtrema2 as well.. For me personally have had better patterning thru my browning gold & winchester sx2 with various choke tubes but ,The winchester I had ejection problems the 2nd year I owned it..It's gathering dust in the back of the safe for a while. The Gold is wood grain & was a gift so I make it a point to keep it out of the weather..I have a SBE II that I CAN tell a difference on how fast it shoots but beats me to death in the spring with light clothing on..All around performance, pattern, & simple cleaning that Xtrema2 is hard to beat..I am also impressed with the camo dip holding up to some light to moderate abuse vs. several buddies have browning shadowgrass guns that are chipped all over

I agree about the camo on the Xtrema2, it does hold up better than other camo guns, at least for me.
