What do you need to leave attached for ID? (from CA to US) A full wing? I want to bring some home but how would you get a breast with one wing into a gallon ziplock? Ideas?

We have transported hundreds across the border over the years. You have to clean them and leave one fully feathered wing on. We get larger plastic bags from meat markets that will hold 2 cranes in each. They must be 2-3 gallon bags and they work very nice. Those wings are darn big so a bigger bag is needed for sure. Good luck and shoot the hell out of those bastards.

They sell 2 gallon zip locks at Wal Mart. Maybe even bigger?

I thought maybe there was a better option, sounds like we will get some bigger bags! Those things are good eating, need to bring some home this year!

Jeff, Bag the zip locks...they really aren't that effective and too spendy when you have to leave a wing on. Get the oversized bread bags that have zip ties. Zip it over the breast around the wing bone so you leave the wing outside the bag away from the meat and they freeze just fine for the short time until you get home to do final clean-up. It goes much quicker at the border as well when they do the inspections if the wings are outside the bags.

On a side note to this topic has any one tried to pull one of these critters through the bird hitch breast-er?

Yes, it is possible to run cranes thru the bird hitch. It took two guys to do it...put one guy on each side of the hitch and each guy take hold of a wing and pull. We also cut a starter hole and a exit hole to make it a little easier. Not easy but way quicker than doing it the old way. Actually worked pretty slick.
